10.00–18.00 Open courtyards and flea markets in Old Rauma
During Lace Week, the residents of Old Rauma open their private courtyards to the public. Visitors can explore the beautiful courtyards where they can buy drinks and snacks and browse the flea markets organised by the residents. Please note that the flea markets may be postponed if it rains. Participating residents’ courtyards can be identified by a sign bearing the Old Rauma Association logo.
The courtyards are open to the public as specified by the residents, but most of them welcome visitors between 10.00–18.00.

11.00 Rauma 580 years riverside walking
Rauma is celebrating its 580th anniversary in 2022. Why did the city form at the mouth of the strait? How has the location of the port changed over the centuries? Come for a walk through the 580-year history of Rauma. We walk along the Rauma River, on the banks of which are located the homes of famous people, schools, factories and still the city’s significant buildings.

A food sale organised by the Rauma Martha Organisation where customers can buy traditional Finnish food, lobscouse casserole, and malt bread. Served with Finnish kotikalja, juice, and water. Picnic dining. Coffee is complimentary. A limited quantity of lobscouse is also sold to take away. The food sale will continue as long as there’s food left.

The Rauma Phone Museum is the destination for the summer trip of the MuseoX, a joint project between the Postal Museum, The Finnish Museum of Games, and the Rupriikki Media Museum, all based in Tampere. During the day you can participate in quizzes, chat, and admire the charming Wähä-Pildola yard in the heart of Rauma’s idyllic old town. We challenge you to reflect on your own communication history, explore the means of communication used in different eras, and invite you to build the future museum of communication, games, postal services, and digital life.

12.30 “Wind – It is a breeze” – Circus performance for children
Two passionate and enthusiastic wind researchers, Vimma and Vaime, want to capture various Beauforts, winds, draughts, and gusts with their wind machine. Capturing the winds is challenging work. The researchers need to be cunning, display ingenious collaboration and acrobatic agility, and remain cool and composed. The performance combines circus and physical theater.

16.30–18.10 Arctic Ensemble’s street circus carneval
NOTE! Due to the rainy weather, the performance will be held in Karin koulu school sport hall, Savilankatu 5 (updated 26.7.)
Arctic Ensemble is a Finnish circus group that was founded in 2018. The street circus carnival is for people of all ages interested in circus, theater and dance, as well as for those who don’t know the art form very well yet. With the two circus performances, the group takes the audience on a journey into the fascinating world of the circus.

The show, which combines couple acrobatics and street theater, takes the audience on a sailing adventure, which can be enjoyed with your feet on the ground.

The long-awaited summer vacation takes a sudden turn when six friends are left at the middle of north when the car breaks down in the middle of the trip. The themes of the show are love, insomnia, bugs, dancing and a touch of madness, and they lead the audience on an exhilarating journey to the circus world.

Lace in the swirls of a party
Rauman Nyplääjät ry’s exhibition features traditional Rauma lace. You can meet lace makers every day. You also have the opportunity to try your hand at lace making under the tutelage of an instructor. You can buy lace making supplies and ready-made items with lace decorations at the sales desk. You can also participate in a raffle.

Pitsikeskus Emelia’s exhibition features lace work created by Tarmo Thorström and Sirkka Jalonen, Lace makers of the year 2020 and 2021 selected by Emelia ry, as well as textile artist Raija Jokinen’s lace-like work.

Rauma Lace permanent exhibition
Rauma Lace’s extended exhibition in the Old Town Hall features an extensive lace collection and explores the use of lace and the history of lace-making from the 18th century to the present day. The oldest laces on display are from the early 19th century.

Blooming beauty in the cottage and yard
Kodisjoki Marthas’ exhibition features attractions both indoors and outdoors. Inside you can see various tapestries, and out in the yard you can find both useful and decorative plants. The Marthas are in the middle of the project “Diverse Yard – Sustainable and edible yard.” You can also find several traditional activities for children, as well as a cafeteria in the yard.

Marela, the home of shipowners
Marela showcases the life and lifestyle of a wealthy shipowner and his family at the turn of the 1900s, the golden age of seafaring in Rauma. Embroidery and cozy comfort – a Biedermeier parlour in Rauma style Explore the display of the Biedermeier-style interior and learn about embroidery, a handicraft style that was popular in the era. Changing exhibition, “Women’s work”, showcases women’s work and life through a collection of objects. A sailing boat from the 1920s is displayed in the Marela boatshed.

Kirsti – Sailor’s Home Museum
The Sailor’s Home Museum Kirsti takes visitors back to the olden days. The beautifully preserved courtyard and its buildings give a good idea of what the Old Rauma area looked like a couple of hundred years ago. The interior on the other hand shows how people lived in Old Rauma in different time periods. You can also see a lace maker at work during your visit.

Old Town Hall
In the Old Town Hall you can explore the history and lace-making traditions of Rauma and visit the museum shop, Kistupuad, where you can find local handicrafts and souvenirs. The museum features the permanent Rauma Lace exhibition. In the upstairs exhibition you can learn about the spiritual and secular power of the church in Rauma. The exhibition introduces various construction stages of the 245-year-old town hall building and explores town administration that was run from the building during the 1700s and 1800s. You can also see a lace maker at work during your visit.

Rauma Art Museum
Rauma Art Museum features the Rauma Triennale 2022 exhibition that consists of national and international contemporary art: “Imagine! What if!” exhibition, curated by artist Teemu Mäki and Chief Curator of the Rauma Art Museum Heta Kaisto. The exhibition features paintings, photography, films, sculptures, installations, and poetry from a few dozen artists or artist groups. The roots of the Triennale lay in the Biennale Balticum which has been organised since the late 1970s.

Sammallahdenmäki, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
A Bronze Age burial site in Kivikylä, Lappi, consisting of a total of 36 burial cairns.
During the summer, you can find a guide on site from 10.00 to 17.00. Non-stop guided tours start from the southern information point (Savulaaksontie 181). Guided tours: 2 € / person, free admission for students and visitors under the age of 18.

Potter’s Workshop
The main product of Potter Gustaf Löfman’s workshop was stove tiles. The brown glazed tiles were made of red clay The workshop, ovens, personal property, and product samples, have been preserved in their original condition.

Rauma Maritime Museum
The Rauma Maritime Museum’s permanent exhibition explores the history of seafaring, maritime education and shipbuilding in Rauma and the life of sailors both at sea and on land. The old Nautical College building explores the history of maritime education in Rauma and tests out modern methods of education in a navigation simulator. The museum’s renewed room, “Raumanmeri”, explores the themes of environmental education. Temporary exhibition “Merenkulkijat poikkeusoloissa” (“Seafarers in times of emergency”), explores how seafarers have had to put themselves in dangerous situations at work through the experiences of individual seafarers and materials. Staircase exhibition introduces you to Karelians in Rauma 一 Rauma locals in Karelia. Merihelena Leskinen’s sea-themed paintings are displayed in the tower.

You can explore and learn about life in the past at this rustic and charming location. A horse in the turns of Rauma history exhibition is displayed at Muina. It includes objects from Muina’s collections. You can find sheep from Ali-Unkin tila farm, located in Eurajoki, grazing the pastures.

Ylen Homestead Art Museum
The museum features Väinö and Hilma Ylen’s folk art exhibition and ITE artist Väinö Ylen’s sculpture exhibition. The museum showcases over 200 concrete figures depicting past life and famous athletes and politicians. There is also a temporary exhibition of art works by Anu Sukanen and Nikolay Nikoloy on display. Café in the courtyard.

The Old Rauma Telephone Museum
The exhibition explores the history of the telephone. The collection is based on material collected over 50 years, the oldest of which dates back to 1870 and the most recent to the 2020s. In the museum, you can explore and learn more about the history of past technology and get tips for the restoration and repair of old telephone devices. The exhibition space can accommodate up to 10 people at a time.

Kelluva saari (“Floating Island”)
“Floating Island” is an environmental artwork by sculptor Raimo Saarinen. The island has been anchored in the sea by the cape of Fåfänga. Real trees and plants grow on this artificial island that imitates a rocky islet. The artwork examines our conception of nature and pays tribute to the abundance of the natural world. The artwork can be viewed from the shores of the Fåfänga cape, for example from Otanlahti rantapuisto park. The Floating Island is a Lönnström contemporary art project produced by the Lönnström Art Museum.

Veneilyä (“Boating”)
Ceramic sculptures of Taru-Taina Nora and Heli Väisänen, two Rauma-based artists, are exhibited in Fageströmin tupa on Kuuskajaskari island. Ferries travel to the island every day.
