10.00 Adventure tour of Old Rauma for children  

The tour includes functional tasks to test your speed, reasoning, and memory. The adventure tour is suitable for primary school children, younger children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Note! The tour is organised in Finnish.

Price 6 €/child, payment in the Old Town Hall before the tour. Duration 45 min.

10.00–12.00 Thella’s coffee    

An event for casual conversation, those interested in lace making and an opportunity to take a tour of Emelia’s exhibition. You can try making a beginner-friendly uddi lace. Emelia offers a free cup of coffee to visitors who come with their own lacemaking pillow.   

“Thella’s coffee” is an occasion organised to celebrate Theresia Frankenhauser, a lady from Porvoo. Thella and her son Carl Frankenhauser played a significant role in reviving the tradition of lacemaking and the style of lace made in Rauma at the turn of the 1900s. Thella supported lace makers financially and promoted the export of Finnish lace.

10.00–18.00 Open courtyards and flea markets in Old Rauma 

During Lace Week, the residents of Old Rauma open their private courtyards to the public. Visitors can explore the beautiful courtyards where they can buy drinks and snacks and browse the flea markets organised by the residents. Please note that the flea markets may be postponed if it rains. Participating residents’ courtyards can be identified by a sign bearing the Old Rauma Association logo.  

The courtyards are open to the public as specified by the residents, but most of them welcome visitors between 10.00-18.00.

Nortamo-Seor performs a daily changing piece of writing by Hj. Nortamo and Tauno Koskela written in the Rauma dialect. The pieces of writing are read by Ossi Paavola.

14.00 Guided tour of Sammallahdenmäki

During this approximately one-hour guided tour at the UNESCO World Heritage site Sammallahdenmäki, you will learn about the Bronze Age burial site. The terrain you will encounter during this walking tour is rough at times. The guided tour is mainly hosted in Finnish. Duration: 1 hour.   

15.30 Metsänpeitossa – a story concert  

The concert takes the audience into a world of biodiversity, folklore, and traditional instruments. Performed by Kulttuuriosuuskunta Uulu. Duration: 45 min. Suitable for all ages. 

16.30 Experience area with traditional instruments  

An experience area where you can try out a variety of traditional instruments from Finland and related countries. Presented by Kulttuuriosuuskunta Uulu. Duration: 1 hour. Suitable for all ages.

This year, the Culture House Poselli is the house of lace. Poselli features lace exhibitions by Rauman Nyplääjät ry and Pitsikeskus Emelia.

Pitsikeskus Emelia 20 years  

The exhibition presents the work of Helena Honka-Hallila, who has been named Lace Maker of the Year 2022. Works of Impi Emelia Alanko, a founding member of Pitsikeskus Emelia, and Hilkka Lehtinen, an honorary member of Pitsikeskus Emelia, are also featured in the exhibition. 

Rauman Nyplääjät ry’s exhibition 

Rauman Nyplääjät ry’s exhibition features traditional Rauma lace. You can meet lace makers every day. You also have the opportunity to try your hand at lace making under the tutelage of an instructor. You can buy lace making supplies and ready-made items with lace decorations at the sales desk. You can also participate in a raffle.

Marela, the home of shipowners

Marela showcases the life and lifestyle of a wealthy shipowner and his family at the turn of the 1900s, the golden age of seafaring in Rauma. Embroidery and cozy comfort – a Biedermeier parlour in Rauma style. Explore the display of the Biedermeier-style interior and learn about embroidery, a handicraft style that was popular in the era. A sailing boat from the 1920s is displayed in the Marela boatshed. 

Single ticket to one museum site: adults 6 €, seniors/unemployed/students/groups

Kirsti – Sailor’s Home Museum

The Sailor’s Home Museum Kirsti takes visitors back to the olden days. The beautifully preserved courtyard and its buildings give a good idea of what the Old Rauma area looked like a couple of hundred years ago. The interior on the other hand shows how people lived in Old Rauma in different time periods.  You can also see a lace maker at work during your visit.

Old Town Hall 

In the Old Town Hall, you will find the museum shop Kistupuad, where you can buy local handicrafts and souvenirs. Rauma Museum presents the history of the Rauma lace through its extensive collection of lace in the Old Town Hall. Olga Kublitskaya brings her international bobbin lace exhibition entitled “Sounds of lace” to the Old Town Hall. You can also meet a lace maker at work during your visit.

Rauma Art Museum 

Rauma Art Museum celebrates art and creativity that doesn’t fit into predefined categories with the museum’s summer exhibition “Lintu ja kala!” (“Fish and Fowl!”). The exhibition highlights both classics of contemporary folk art and new promising creators of contemporary art. Many artists are involved in this exhibition.

Rauma Maritime Museum 

The Rauma Maritime Museum’s permanent exhibition explores the history of seafaring, maritime education and shipbuilding in Rauma and the life of sailors both at sea and on land. The old Nautical College building explores the history of maritime education in Rauma and tests out modern methods of education in a navigation simulator. The museum’s renewed room, “Raumanmeri”, explores the themes of environmental education.

Teresia ja Rafael Lönnström Home Museum 

The Teresia and Rafael Lönnström Home Museum showcases the unique home and art collection of the industrialist couple from Rauma. In the Museum gallery you can learn more about previous and current Lönnström contemporary art projects.

Kiikartorni observation tower

The museum features Väinö and Hilma Ylen’s folk art exhibition and ITE artist Väinö Ylen’s sculpture exhibition. The museum showcases over 200 concrete figures depicting past life and famous athletes and politicians.

The Old Rauma Telephone Museum  

The exhibition explores the history of the telephone. The collection is based on material collected over 50 years, the oldest of which dates back to 1870 and the most recent to the 2020s. In the museum, you can explore and learn more about the history of past technology and get tips for the restoration and repair of old telephone devices.
