Rules for the lace design competition

Competition period: May 20 – November 15, 2019

Organiser: City of Rauma, Culture and Museum Services, Kanalinranta 3, FI-26100 Rauma

The aim of the competition is to design a piece of continuous bobbin lace. The participants can choose the size, material and colour of their piece. The lace design can be coloured, but it should also work as a black and white version. Participation in the competition requires that the design may be used as such or that certain parts of it may be used in any communications relating to Rauma Lace Week.

The designs must be submitted by 4:00 pm on November 15, 2019. Designs submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

Contestants will participate in the competition with a nickname of their choice.

Please mark “Pitsimallikilpailu” (“Lace design competition”) on the envelope.


The participants must provide the following in order for their design to be accepted for the competition:

1.       The pattern (pricking card), indicating the starting points of the pattern, the pairs of bobbins and the thread number.

2.       A coloured drawing or written description of the design and the name of the piece.

3.       A photograph of the finished piece.

4.       A separate sealed envelope, marked with the participant’s nickname. Inside the including the following information: the participant’s name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address (optional).


The pieces submitted for the competition must be designed by the participants themselves. The designs must not have been previously published.

The competition is open to all natural persons, excluding those involved in organising the competition.

The material submitted for the competition will only be returned upon request.

The jury appointed by the City of Rauma’s Culture and Museum Services will select the winning piece by December 16, 2019. The organiser reserves the right not to select a winning piece, in which case the prize will not be awarded. The participants may not contest the decision.

The winner will be required to send the lace work to the organiser by January 31, 2020. The work will be handed over to the competition organiser.

The intellectual property rights will remain with the participant submitting the work. The winner will award the organiser the right to use the work in the manner and scope specified by the organiser.

The pieces submitted for the competition will be displayed during Rauma Lace Week 2020. In the event of such usage, no remuneration will be offered.

The organiser has the right to publish the name of the winner in different media without separate consent or compensation.

The participants are responsible for the accuracy of the contact information they provide to the organiser.

The personal data provided by the participants will only be used for internal communication regarding the competition and will not be further disclosed. The data will be deleted after Rauma Lace Week 2020.



The winner of the lace design competition will receive a cash prize of 400 euros.  The winner will be informed in person by December 16, 2019. The prize money is taxable income.


The liabilities of the organiser

The competition organiser reserves the right to make possible changes and the right to change the rules of the competition.

By participating in the competition, participants agree to comply with the official rules and conditions of the competition and the decisions of the organiser. The organiser is not responsible for any costs that may arise from participating in the competition.
